In The Hidden Present by Lois Wickstrom, Caspian looks forward to the magical tradition his Grandpa has every year on his Unbirthday: receiving a hidden gift. This time, though, the special box under his bed is missing. Instead, Caspian finds an odd object called the Inquisitive Indicator, a compass-like device that points toward places with answers. As he follows its guidance, Caspian embarks on a fun and mysterious adventure. From a hollow tree to discovering hidden clues, he uncovers something unexpected, which turns out to be much more than he anticipated. The story is a delightful mix of curiosity, problem-solving, and a playful twist on the idea of a gift.

The Hidden Present is an engaging and well-crafted story for kids. The plot keeps you wondering what will happen next, as Caspian's search for his gift takes surprising turns. The pace is just right; it’s quick enough to keep young readers interested but still gives them enough time to absorb each clue and discovery. I love how the book isn’t just about finding a present but is about the experience of the search itself, which makes the whole thing feel more meaningful. Caspian is a great character—his curiosity and persistence make him easy to root for. Grandpa adds a warm and playful touch to the story, making their relationship feel loving and fun. Lois Wickstrom explores themes like curiosity, perseverance, and thinking outside the box which are perfect for young readers. Illustrations by Nicolás Milano are entertaining while making important lessons attractive. It’s a lovely, imaginative story that reminds us how sometimes the journey is the best part of receiving a gift.
