A Symphony of Lies by Maria Monday is a psychological thriller about deception, betrayal, and greed. Emma, a very gifted investigative journalist, is regrouping in her apartment in the Swiss Alps when she receives a letter. Nicole, her stepmother, has died. Shocked and deeply saddened, Emma is even more bewildered when she discovers that she is one of the beneficiaries in Nicole’s will. At the reading, she meets a few interesting characters and makes another shocking discovery— Nicole’s death was a suicide. But Nicole’s story is not yet finished. Speaking from the grave, Nicole leaves cryptic clues for Emma to decipher and truths that lead her on a very dangerous path. Accompanying Emma is her dog, Max, and her loyal, beloved friend, Angela, whom she entrusts with her life. But Emma is about to dabble in a dangerous game where murder occurs at the snap of a finger or a whispered word.

A Symphony of Lies has an intriguing plot with twists and turns that not even seasoned readers will guess. Conniving characters hiding behind equally conniving plans, this engrossing novel will have you suspicious of your own shadow. I enjoyed Emma and her cute dog’s mental banter; It made me laugh and love Max all the more. A show-off, he loved his walks and taking pictures with adoring strangers. Angela is the friend every girl should have; she offered tremendous support to Emma, who desperately needed it. I loved Maria Monday’s unique narrative style and the way she presented Emma, whose quick wit and emphatic nature drew me to her. I was immediately drawn in by the intriguing writing and couldn’t put it down. Emma’s self-actualization and acceptance of herself were admirable, and I feel a lot can be learned from her journey. Readers are sure to enjoy A Symphony of Lies as the surprises are truly shocking and the revelations mind-boggling.

Symphony of Lies by Maria Monday tells the story of Swiss investigative journalist Emma Bally, who retreats to a quiet Alpine village, seeking distance from a career defined by exposing corruption and compromising her own ethics. Her solitude is interrupted when she receives notice that an acquaintance, Nicole Wagner, has died and named her in a will that demands her presence. What begins as a puzzling inheritance quickly becomes dangerous, drawing Emma into a network of wealth, secrets, and calculated manipulation that stretches from the Swiss Alps to Monaco. As Emma retraces her history with Nicole, she uncovers buried tensions within her family, including lingering doubts about her mother’s death and her father’s past. The narrative steadily reveals a pattern of suspicious deaths and hidden motives, forcing Emma to confront not only external threats but also her own shifting sense of morality.

Maria Monday blends descriptive detail with a steady narrative rhythm, keeping the story moving at a slower pace and allowing it to develop. The pacing balances introspective passages about Emma’s past with forward momentum driven by unfolding mysteries, creating tension that builds without rushing. Dialogue often carries both surface meaning and underlying implication, reinforcing the theme of hidden truths. Readers who enjoy psychological tension paired with character-driven storytelling will appreciate the novel’s exploration of ambition, guilt, and identity. The emotional threads of memory, loyalty, and trust add intrigue, making the narrative engaging beyond the central mystery. Readers who savor suspense and intrigue will find Symphony of Lies an enjoyable read. Fans of Paula Hawkins will notice similarities, particularly in the way internal conflict and external danger intertwine.

Symphony Of Lies by Maria Monday follows Emma Bally, a Swiss investigative journalist whose life changed when she was named in a will. Emma was enjoying a carefully planned year-long hiatus from her work when her life changed dramatically. Nicole Wagner, an acquaintance, passed away in Monaco and left her a position in the Marianne Foundation and 10 million dollars. The inheritance appears to be innocent at first, before Emma is swept into the world of lies and deceit of the European elites. So Emma does what she does best: she leaves the peace and quiet of the Alps behind and dives headfirst into a mystery that is full of secrets and concealed crimes. A series of suspicious murders all connect to the inheritance. The deeper she digs, the more dangerous things become. Before she knows it, Emma realizes that the system she is trying to fight is slowly making her a part of it.

Author Maria Monday created a wonderful psychological thriller that had me hooked from the very beginning. Symphony Of Lies is incredibly complex with a well-rounded cast of characters and detailed descriptions. I loved Emma and her sharp wit. She knew what she needed to do and how she needed to execute her plans. She was clinical and systematic, something that I thoroughly enjoyed. I also loved how the story was character-driven; it followed Emma’s emotional growth as well as the mystery surrounding the murders. The dialogues were crisp, and the narrative was descriptive, each playing an instrumental role in the story. Max was the true ace of the story. He was emotional support to Emma and was there for her as she unraveled each layer of the mystery. I cannot recommend this story highly enough!
