Entangled Frequencies by Long Temple follows Maya, Zaria, Imani, and Nia, four successful Black women whose lives intersect through a close group chat named Frequency. While managing high-powered careers in the city, their controlled lives are upended when they join Sync’d, a behavioral dating app that pairs users based on real-world habits. Instead of letting the women rely on their usual protective instincts, the algorithm matches each protagonist with a partner who challenges her specific emotional defense system. As overthinking, logic, rigid planning, and avoidance fail to shield them from genuine intimacy, the four friends must confront what happens when their curated worlds collide with reality. Will these independent women find the courage to drop their guards and choose connection when walking away seems like the only safe option?

Long Temple’s Entangled Frequencies is a contemporary romance that captures the intricate nature of modern connection. The narrative feels like you’re right there listening to a vibrant group of friends talk with complete openness and sharp wit. I was captivated by how the story explores the hidden emotional walls we build to protect ourselves from the unpredictable nature of love. The story truly comes to life in their group chat, holding up a mirror to help each other see past their own defensive habits. Temple paints a candid picture of a world where having professional goals does not mean you cannot learn to be vulnerable. The book reminds us that real love sometimes means we must dismantle the polished presentation of ourselves and simply discover the strength to stay present. It is a beautifully crafted romance that depicts how real connection comes from our small but sincere decisions instead of outward perfection. Very highly recommended.
