The Hunt Chronicles Volume 1: Awakening by J.D. Demers is the first installment of Christian's story about surviving the zombie apocalypse. At first Christian isn't sure about what is going on; he'd been sick with a nasty flu and out of it for days right before everything went bad. When his roommate comes back after he thought Dave was dead, Christian starts to realize exactly what is going on. Going through a learning curve and surprised when a bite from his roommate turns him, Christian realizes that zombies aren't what Hollywood has portrayed them to be and surviving isn't going to be as easy as he'd thought. On a scavenging trip, Christian is surprised yet pleased to meet another survivor, but quickly learns that he doesn't know as much as he thought when he finds out the hard way there are more than just zombies to contend with. With Christian and his new friends survive or will the apocalypse claim their lives too?
The Hunt Chronicles Volume 1: Awakening by J.D. Demers isn't your average zombie novel. The Hunt Chronicles is a mix of The Walking Dead TV series, the Resident Evil book series, and the movie Zombie Apocalypse. J.D. Demers seems to have taken inspiration from those three sources, morphed them into one, and made it his own. The imagery and descriptions put you right there with Christian and his group. I felt Christian's fear and felt a shiver go down my spine when the scabs' howls were described. I will be watching out for the other books in The Hunt Chronicles as Christian hints at things he still needs to tell, but hasn't been able to, and I've GOT to know what those things are. I'm right there with Christian; why are the zombies doing what they do? Why are they so hard to kill? Hopefully, I'll get my answers as J.D. Demers continues Christian's story. Amazing book!
