The Illuminator's Test (The Voyages of the Legend) (Volume 2) by Alina Sayre revolves around the life of Ellie and her friends who start their new lives on the flying island of Rhynlyr. She has a role to play in the war against Draaken, but the latter somehow knows about her gift of Sight and wants to control it. Ellie has to get out of the danger and deception surrounding her. Will she be able to do it? Will Ellie be able to fight for her friends and the future of the One Kingdom?
The author does an excellent job of creating an exciting land with interesting characters that keep readers glued to the book. The author's language is exquisite and the detailed descriptions make the scenes come alive. The simple and elegant style of writing gives good pace and movement to the plot and the story moves forward fluidly. It resonates with young readers along the lines of the Harry Potter series and The Lord of the Rings with lot of adventure and whimsy that will make readers dream and imagine. The illustrations are good and they complement the story nicely. All the characters that support Ellie are well sketched and they complement the story as it takes off with its whimsical twists and turns. This book sets the tone for the next volume and it's definitely a book all young readers will be looking forward to reading.
