The Kinshield Legacy is the first book in a new series. In this book we are introduced to the tablet with the Rune Stones. Warrant Knight, Gavin Kinshield, locates the tablet in a cave. He’s seen it often in his dreams. The tablet has five rune stones embedded in it. Gavin solves the riddle of the rune stones one at a time. Legend says whoever solves the riddles will be king, but Gavin has no desire to be king. He seeks the letter written by his ancestor Ronor Kinshield, explaining how King Arek died. Ronor was the king’s protector; however, the king died alone. The kingdom is in ruins and needs a ruler capable of uniting the people.
I knew Brodas Ravenkind was evil from the moment he was introduced. The wicked wizard tricked a young boy and murdered his mother after tricking her into signing over her estate.
The Kinshield Legacy is well written. The plot moves along at a nice pace. This book stands alone well, but leaves room for a sequel or whole series of books. The characterization was perfection. However, there were a lot of characters and side stories to keep up with. It is hard to believe this is the debut book for this author. May does an excellent job describing the characters all the way down to a missing eye tooth. This book captivated me from the first page and held my attention to the last.
