The Madwoman of Preacher's Cove is a work of fiction in the paranormal, thriller, and drama sub-genres penned by author Joy Ross Davis. Written for adults, the book contains some scenes of violence and adult content suited to more mature readers, as is appropriate for the genre of the piece. The central figures in the story are Lucy and Libby Addams, who live in the titular resort of Preacher’s Cove where Lucy spends her time secluded in a workshop, making dolls. Horribly disfigured by a fire some years previously, Lucy is tempted out of hiding when a handsome reporter comes to town to investigate a series of mysterious deaths by a lightning strike.
Author Joy Ross Davis has crafted a totally enthralling thriller novel with plenty of mysterious twists and turns that readers are sure to be captivated by. One of the things I enjoyed most about the novel was its unusual central figure, Lucy Addams, who inverts the conventional, typical beautiful heroine and brings some real emotion, character, and power to the central role in the mystery and drama. The atmosphere of the book really reflects and revolves around this strong central figure, and I really enjoyed the spooky paranormal descriptions and intense language that Davis employs throughout the work. In terms of plot structure, even the savviest of mystery lovers will find surprises in store in this excellent and involved story which flouts convention and brings many satisfying and original moments. Overall, I would certainly recommend The Madwoman of Preacher's Cove to all readers who want a mysterious new paranormal thriller to sink their teeth into.
