The Mind Trap (The Dream Hiker) (Volume 2), by Padmaja Khanna, is a continuation of a young adult adventure that involves 3 students accidentally getting into each other’s dreams. In this episode, they determine to meet in real life at a summer camp and continue their dreaming practice. They continue the mission referred to in the previous book, and make additional progress, learning new skills at the same time. This time, they bring Selenia’s sister, Zeta, along as well as an acquaintance of Selenia. They've also by now identified in waking life one of the repeat characters from the first book, “the boy with brown hair.” They find out his name and talk to him as well. Each night, once again, they turn up in the same dream and pick up where the last night’s left off. Bigger challenges await the little group as one of them comes into danger and could lose their life in waking time. Attempting to find and save her occupies the reader as it looks like all may be lost.

This book picked up where The Dream Hiker left off. Again, due to the wonders of technology, the original cast were able to meet one another and further explore their dreaming world. I loved how this book could make young adult readers expand their thinking about what is possible, and thereby expand their horizons in life. The Mind Trap caught my attention because I enjoy learning about dreaming. Dreams have always been an interest and I hope that Padmaja Khanna will elaborate on dreaming techniques in later volumes.
