The Morgenstern Murders is from The Jonas McCleary Series, Volume 2 by C.M. Albrecht. An intruder murdered Doctor Morgenstern, an abortionist, and his wife at their home while anti-abortionists staged a protest outside their gate. His daughter, Goldie Berman, is the prime suspect and hires Jonas McCleary, a struggling private detective, to clear her name. Jonas soon has a list of interesting suspects who had motives for wanting the doctor’s clinics to close, including Goldie’s husband, David. He was drinking in the wine cellar when the killer was in the house. Jonas is perplexed when another suspect is murdered and exchanges information with Detective Kershaw. He still feels that he is overlooking an important clue that will solve the case, but every time he thinks he has it figured out, someone on his list throws him off track.
The Morgenstern Murders (The Jonas McCleary Series Volume 2) is the second novel by C.M. Albrecht that I have read and enjoyed both very much. I was very surprised by the outcome and loved the way the author kept my attention with the many twists he included. His writing puts one at ease, and the story is great. I thought C.M. Albrecht created Jonas McCleary’s character well. Jonas also had financial and family problems, but he dealt with most of them in a realistic way. The Morgenstern Murders is a story that focuses on abortion, and the author addresses the pros and cons of the subject in a neutral, informative, but interesting atmosphere.
