The Peruvian Book of the Dead is a work of fiction in the historical fiction, interpersonal drama, and literary subgenres. It is best suited to mature readers owing to some scenes of violence and adult themes. Penned by author Roger J. Florschutz, the story begins with a mysterious disappearance that sparks a chain of events across four different stories that interlock to form a central intrigue. We visit post-war Scotland, where mysteries lurk in the aftermath of war. Another strand of the tale explores the vibrant and exciting art worlds of London and New York. Exploring communist uprisings in Peru and the eerily tranquil Ontario resort that’s about to encounter a most harrowing time, these disparate tales soon come together in a tale of horror, mystery, and love.

Author Roger J. Florschutz has crafted a novel with an incredible genre blend that leaves no stone unturned, taking his four separate narratives and creating an intricately penned story that will stick with you long after you close the cover. The novel takes readers on a journey through various landscapes and periods, creating a rich tapestry of interconnected lives with some really superb atmospheric lexis that bring each place to life. I was impressed by the sense of attitude that remains unique to each time and place, realistically informing the behavior and dialogue of the characters to make them feel all the more real. Reading this book is an immersive experience that keeps you captivated as each layer of the narrative unfolds, revealing the profound impact of choices and the interconnectedness of human experiences. There’s a sharp eye for psychology and emotional awareness that resonates deeply with every choice and every outcome. Overall, The Peruvian Book of the Dead is a highly recommended read for fans of accomplished literary fiction, horror, mysteries, and powerful emotional dramas.
