Author Biography

Jaswinder Singh worked as a senior manager of a bank in India for over eighteen years. He holds a Master’s Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism, and currently resides in Edmonton, Canada.

His debut novel The Quest for Integrity was published in November 2015. The Quest for Integrity is a work of literary fiction dealing in the socio-political climate of modern-day India.

A novel of ideas in the spirit of Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead, The Quest for Integrity pits the heroic Purshottam Gill against the forces of greed plaguing modern society. As Purshottam diligently works to improve performance and raise morale at the Bank of the Nation’s Amlawar branch, his attempts are hindered by an intricate conspiracy involving trade union officials, politicians, and some of the bank’s senior officers, whose ambitions are threatened. Among those who align against the reformer is Neki Lal, whose rise from a life of poverty to become a union leader and vicious attack of Purshottam vividly illustrates how success all-too-often comes to be valued above ethics and morality in Indian society.

The Quest for Integrity takes philosophical fiction to the cross section between banking and politics, a vicious environment where ambitious rivals use deceit and manipulation as their route to success.

A riveting tale of power, corruption, and the need for social change, The Quest for Integrity is a thought-provoking and inspiring story that illustrates the importance of dignity, morality, and social responsibility.

In an interesting, unique and creative work by author Jaswinder Singh, The Quest for Integrity is certainly a book that will stay with a person long after they have read the last word. Written in a highly cerebral style, the story follows the hero, Purshattam Gill, as he struggles against greed and dishonesty in our modern world. Going against the powerful union boss, Neki Lai, and the bank officer who supports him, Ramesh Trivedi, and finally the very influential political party leader Guishan Kumar, it seems unlikely that the honest Purshattam will be able to prove his righteous point. But when one of the men have a change in heart and conscience, perhaps all is not lost.

I very much enjoyed The Quest for Integrity. Jaswinder Singh has done a great job in providing an intriguing read that also does much to educate the reader on the shocking issues in some of the higher echelons of Indian society, politics and economic forces. Characters were well drawn and readers will certainly be able to relate to the plight of protagonist Purshattam Gill. Any reader who loves an interesting and creative book, as well as one that will serve to educate and entertain should absolutely read The Quest for Integrity. I recommend this book and I certainly hope that Jaswinder Singh is hard at work on his next novel. The author's highly unique and interesting voice is certainly a promising one in this genre.
