Krysten Harlow brings us the fourth book in The Chronicles of Lethia, The Redemption. New truths have come to the surface while others have stayed hidden. While Sab and Nate are going after the Exiled, Bea has decided to go to Zero, the darkest of mages, to gather more knowledge on the Cult, deep magic, and the ritual that will supposedly save magic. Brendan is at the Academy to learn more about being a null. Previously exiled, Fox has been freed and develops her magic at the Academy, becoming stronger. Outside, the Cult tries to convince the majority that they are right while taking over whole towns to block access to the Academy. Allies become traitors and traitors could become allies. Who can truly be trusted?
With Krysten Harlow’s unique writing style, the reader gets to know each of the characters on an intimate level. The first-person narrative is ideal in a fantasy novel dealing with magic and emotions. I appreciated being privy to their thoughts and method of processing information. I felt included instead of someone just looking in. Personal growth is also evident as many of the characters have matured from the first book in this epic fantasy. More new forms of magic are revealed, which means the author has planned the entire fantasy series to keep the reader engaged, entertained, and wanting more, page after page and book after book. The Redemption is recommended for young adults and contains some scenes with violence. More mature fantasy readers will also enjoy it.
