In The Reluctant Cowgirl: Taming the Cowboy's Heart by Renee Riva, Amy’s Aunt Polly leaves her a cottage, which was surprising to her since they had not seen each other for years. As she travels from Seattle to Wishram, Amy Landers’ goal is simple: sell the cottage and buy the unit she has been living in. However, as she enters the cottage, her feeling of nostalgia becomes overwhelming as tears run down her face. Amy remembers vividly Aunt Polly’s warmth and how loved she felt during her childhood visits to the cottage. She cannot help feeling guilty for neglecting her wonderful aunt. Then there is Jesse Drake, the cowboy and childhood friend whom Amy can’t seem to get along with at first. In a sharp turn of events, Amy finds herself enchanted by Wishram as Jesse becomes her tour guide. She begins to get closer to him, but her mother’s words continuously ring in her mind. Will Amy let down her guard and allow herself to fall for the stunning cowboy?
I love reading Renee Riva’s books, partly because of their humor and partly because of the life lessons contained in them. The Reluctant Cowgirl particularly is a comical story. As Amy travels to Wishram, she has no idea what awaits her. What would have been a simple non-eventful journey becomes a life-changing encounter where she reconnects with God, falls in love, and feels the wonderful touch of nature. Reading The Reluctant Cowgirl reminded me of the importance of opening myself up to new experiences and tracing back my steps of faith. This book is a lovely Christian contemporary romance and is highly recommended to readers with an interest in this genre.
