Lynette grew up listening to her mother Mattie’s stories about her WW2 love for US Navy Diver Charlie. She used Mattie’s 30 letters from Charlie, and together with her insightful editor/advisor husband, Bud, they completed extensive research to give reality to The Rigel Affair and The Rigel Affair Sequel. Lynette has published multiple short stories for NZ magazines. Both Lynette and Bud have completed numerous Creative Writing courses at Auckland University. Lynette is an accomplished expressionist Artist, with works sold internationally.

The Rigel Affair Sequel is L M Hedrick’s follow-up to the excellent romance novel The Rigel Affair. The book continues the story of Charlie Kincaid and Mattie Blanc whose love affair becomes strained after the end of the war when Charlie’s work keeps him from returning to her and both face the temptation of potential new partners. It’s easy to fall in love with the protagonists of this story as fate conspires to keep them apart despite the war being over. They’re both well-conceived and complex emotional characters who develop gorgeously over the course of the story in response to the events of the narrative.
There’s a wonderful level of historical authenticity on show in the pages of this book which constantly impresses with the vivid picture of the world of the 1940s, a testament to author L M Hedrick’s painstaking research and gift for prose in bringing that research to vivid life. As the pair fights against temptation and expectation, as well as a new wave of danger, the dream of finding a happy life together seems to be one that fate will constantly keep out of their reach. The Rigel Affair Sequel is a whirlwind of personal drama that takes its lead characters on a rollercoaster journey filled with suspense and high stakes, a narrative that will sink its hooks into readers from the moment that they pick up the book. Using the colorful and well-researched backdrop of the immediate post-WW2 world, the story doesn’t rest on the laurels of its predecessor and carves an exciting niche for itself.
