The Road Home is another in the Amish series by Patrick Craig. In this book, Jenny Springer is a young adult and intensely serious about trying to find her roots. She was adopted by an Amish couple after having been found in a snowstorm. Although she loves and respects her adoptive parents, she longs to find her biological parents, especially her mother. She feels incomplete without knowing her true genetic roots. When she meets a young man named Johnny Hershberger, Jenny finally feels she has some understanding of her longings to uncover her past. Johnny also needs to discover his history and, together, they set out to do just that. But, Johnny has a secret that threatens to undermine the entire search as well as jeopardize Jenny's well-being.
Despite not having read any of the previous books in the series, I had no trouble following the plot and characters in this book. The characters are well developed and, for the most part, quite lovable in their own, unique personality traits. When the couple became separated, I felt some of the intensity of their interactions were lost. However, the plot was nicely worked so that the reader might understand the feelings of the characters. Most readers will be able to identify with the fears of the adoptive parents as they begin to explore their own feelings of possibly having to share a daughter they have loved and nurtured. If you've liked the other books about Jenny Springer, you'll love this one as well.
