Woman of Two Worlds by Sarah French is a children's picture book that begins in 1738 with the Cherokee Wolf Clan and the birth of Wild Rose, later called Nanye’hi, who was believed to have a special connection with the spirit world after being guided home by her ancestors as a child. She married a warrior named Kingfisher and, after his death in battle, took his place, earning respect as a leader and the only woman permitted to vote in council meetings. Nanye’hi promoted peace and later married an Irish settler, Bryant Ward, becoming known as Nancy Ward. Trusted by both the Cherokee and the settlers, she worked to prevent conflict, aided captured settlers, and was instrumental in the Treaty of Hopewell. Her legacy remains honored by her descendants and the state of Tennessee.

Woman of Two Worlds: The Life of Cherokee Leader Nancy Ward by Sarah French is an inspiring picture book that celebrates courage, compassion, and unity through the remarkable story of Nancy Ward. French’s storytelling invites readers to see history through the eyes of a woman who believed in peace even in times of great division, and her life is written simply, with warmth and respect. French honors Ward's bravery and wisdom in a way that is comfortable for young readers to understand. Jenna Lomasi’s spectacular illustrations, created in a classic cartoon style, are absolutely gorgeous with beautiful earth tones that perfectly match the book’s spirit and setting. Together, words and art bring to life a true figure whose belief in kindness and diplomacy still matters today. This book is a gift for families and classrooms alike.
