The Saints Who Saved Me is an honest, moving look at the early years of John Katz, revealing the deep scars left behind by a dysfunctional family and a predatory stepmother. Growing up with a mother facing severe mental illness and a father who just was not emotionally there, Katz had to find his way through a very unstable childhood where feeling safe was rare and just getting by took everything he had. The book tracks his long personal battles, from his time spent in a seminary to when he joined the military to establish firm boundaries and discover who he was. At its heart, this memoir is a beautiful tribute to the incredible people—from everyday heroes to deep spiritual figures—who helped him find his way back. It is an encouraging reminder that a person can overcome generational trauma, find a true sense of purpose, and move past basic survival mode to live a better life.
The Saints Who Saved Me by John Katz is a truly special spiritual memoir that gives you a deep look at what recovery actually looks like.
