The Seren Trilogy is a children's and pre-teens' fantasy series written by Darren Lewis. Ellie's adventures begin when she's out on a picnic with her parents and little brother Jack. After lunch, she starts exploring the park and hears voices coming from behind a tree. Ellie is a curious girl, and she moves in a little closer to hear what they're saying. Suddenly, she feels a thump on her foot. When it happens again, she looks down and sees a frowning brown bunny who asks her what she's doing. She knows she shouldn't talk to strange people, but the bunny pokes her again in the shin and demands a response. Ellie figures the rule against talking to strangers couldn't really refer to bunnies as well and decides to answer the annoyed little rabbit.
Darren Lewis's animal fantasy series for children and pre-teens, The Seren Trilogy, is exciting and full of action and adventure. Ellie is a grand character whose alliance with the rabbits blends elements of epic fantasy and mythology in the first of the three stories. I loved the first story and was thrilled to discover that the second and third stories were equally entertaining. Lewis' story lines are compelling and well-plotted, and his storytelling is inspired. While this fantasy trilogy is written for a younger audience, I believe that other adult fans of epic fantasy will have as good a time reading The Seren Trilogy as I did. Lewis hints at the end of the last story that more of Ellie's adventures are being planned, and I hope they'll be ready soon. The Seren Trilogy is most highly recommended.
