Author Biography

At a very young age, I was attracted to poetry. My older brother, by repeating fragments of french poems when preparing for his baccalaureate, was my primary source of inspiration. Listening to: “The Lake” by Lamatine, “Oceano Nox” by Hugo, “Sorrow” by Musset and many more, is like having a feeling of what eternity is. I had the opportunity to attend Les Humanites College where under the influence of poets/novelists: Frank Etienne, Rene Philoctete, Michel Saint Martin, I was soaked in a well of poetry.

In the Fall of 1978, I enter medical school at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara. Not long after, I met the love of my life, Leticia. In 1983 I married her. We have two wonderful daughters. Tragically in 1990 she passed away. A year later I completed my specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology in a dependent hospital of The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Those circumstances marked the rebirth of what was sleeping in me: “Poetry”

The Shadow Of Leticia by Jean Paul Ernst Brutus is a collection of romantic poems written by the poet for his late wife. The poet has captured their years of marriage through his words. Every poem is filled with a lot of emotions and readers can connect well with his words and thoughts because they are places where readers would have visited in their lifetime. The poet's feelings make the poems emotional, poignant and heartbreaking in their simplicity. The fine crafting of words leaves a lasting effect in readers' minds. The author has played with the senses, blended them perfectly into each other, and come up with a profoundly synesthetic collection of poems.

'YESTERDAY' evokes a sense of nostalgia and the minimalist style gives it the right amount of thoughtfulness and depth. The combination of passion and excellent craftsmanship in 'LOVED-LOVER' makes it an excellent read. The cadence and the beautiful words in all the poems make this a superb collection. 'CANYON OF FLOWERS' is another beautiful poems which will grab readers with its imagery and excellent rhyme scheme. The poet captures the true expressions of joy and sorrow with his words and makes great use of imagery and sound techniques.

The beautiful scenes, descriptive verses, and clarity of thoughts make the poems. Their mutual love and maturity of the relationship is made evident through these writings. For those who love reading poetry, this collection is a must-read because the style is excellent and very effective.
