The Shooting is the first book in The Impact Series by CK Westbrook. The world is still reeling from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic when another shocking catastrophe afflicts the planet. Within a span of 15 minutes, millions of gun owners across the globe unexpectedly shoot themselves dead. Kate Stellute is an employee at Space Force, finding it difficult to cope with the loss of people around her. During a run, Kate comes across a mysterious being calling itself Rex, who tells her to warn her leaders that more violence will follow until they take steps to clean up the pollution surrounding the planet. With a NASA biophysicist named Dr. Sinclair Jones, Kate warns her superiors, only to find herself becoming a person of interest in the eyes of federal agencies. Will she be able to save the world?

CK Westbrook delivers a nailbiting thriller as the first installment of what promises to be an enthralling sci-fi series. Filled with suspense, mystery, and intrigue, The Shooting is the kind of sci-fi thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the end. The plot is full of surprises, and you're never quite sure what's going to happen next. The book ends on a cliffhanger which I assume will be resolved in the sequel. Westbrook incorporates some relevant social issues into the narrative, such as environmental negligence and conspiracy theories that distract the general populace from the urgent problems of current times. I think sci-fi readers will find a lot to love in The Shooting.
