In The Silken Web by Sandra Brown, we meet Kathleen, a very naïve and innocent camp counselor, and Erik, a videographer. Erik and Kathleen are attracted to each other and while she attempts to resist the attraction, he is determined to seduce her. After only two days she succumbs to temptation. Mistakenly, she comes to believe that he is married; devastated, she runs away. Kathleen takes a new job and moves to California. She is excited about the new job until she discovers she is expecting Erik’s baby. Her new boss fell in love with her the moment he first met her. They marry and he raises the child as his own. What will happen when Erik returns? Does Kathleen still love him? How will he feel about the child?

The Silken Web is a love story with a twist. I enjoyed parts of this tale, but I also felt that it was not Sandra Brown at her best. However, it did stir emotion in me. Cons: It only took two days for Erik to seduce Kathleen. Instead of confronting Erik, she ran. She discovers she is pregnant so she decides to quit her job. There is more, but I will stop there so that I don’t give away more of the plot. Pros: Seth was a fabulous character! His sister Hazel was a real nut. The book was well written. This is one of Sandra Brown’s older books. It hints at her original talent that has since matured.
