Treat yourself to a riveting slice-of-life drama with Paul Steven Stone and Alien Buddha's The Snow That Never Fell. It doesn't take much for Mickey to be happy. He is the nine-year-old son of Paul Peterson, a divorced father of three going through his own version of a midlife crisis. The father-son duo is participating in a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby competition along with 200 other kids. Paul is embarrassed by his efforts on the seemingly "uncool" race car he helped craft for his sweet son, who couldn't be happier with his unexpected wins. As the day progresses, Paul begins to reevaluate his relationship with his own father, a gambling addict, and his tumultuous marriage. Additionally, he ponders how to prepare his son for a life fraught with surprises, from the unpredictability of the opposite sex to its inevitable embarrassments.

The Snow That Never Fell is a slow burner and all the more enthralling for that. Paul Steven Stone and Alien Buddha have crafted a captivating character-driven tale that will make you laugh at seemingly mundane situations and leave you with a sense of wholesomeness you can't get enough of. The narrative focuses on the relationship between Paul and his son, Mickey. In Mickey, Paul sees his younger self, who he wants to protect and preserve his innocence from being corrupted by the world. You can't help but love their adorable dynamic. The authors also do a splendid job of giving readers a view into Paul's mind and his unique and insightful observations on life. I loved the book, and if you enjoy character-driven stories, you will too.
