Annabel has just moved into her newly purchased home and immediately she captures the attention of her handsome neighbors, Evan and Nate, taking a break from cutting down a tree. She is equally fascinated by the beautiful, shirtless scenery in her new neighborhood and, hoping that they are permanent fixtures, she introduces herself. The Summer Heat is a short story about two friends falling for the same girl, Annabel, and the journey she takes in choosing which friend will warm her bed and her life. Elodie Parkes paints a clear picture of how Nate and Evan’s growing feelings for Annabel are fracturing a lifelong friendship. Will both men give up her or their friendship?

I love the way Elodie Parkes presents the idea of a triad relationship between Nate, Annabel and Evan. It isn’t all about the sex or even mostly about the sex, since the pull was so strong from the beginning. It is a compelling idea that will make you pause and give thought to loving two people at once. Although a short story, The Summer Heat is wonderfully paced with three solid characters who each bring something to the table. I loved the conversation between Nate and Annabel entering a threesome relationship; it was so real and heartfelt and made the story so much more than an erotic romp. The romance unfolds quickly, but these incredible characters know their minds and it is a very adult relationship in terms of maturity. When it all finally comes together, prepare to be amazed!
