The Sunscreaming Summer by Dr. Tamara Lazic Strugar is a graphic story and the first in the Skinventurez series. Schools out, the summer holidays are here, and Mia and Luka are off on holiday with their family and friends. Luka is terrified of ghosts, and Mia keeps teasing him about it. One morning, Luka is convinced his dad is a ghost because he looks so pale and that gives Mia a new idea. The sun has gone in when the friends decide to play tennis, so Luka doesn’t bother to put his sunscreen on. He learns the painful way that it wasn’t a good idea. The rest of their vacation is filled with scary and fun times, but Luka has to visit a skin doctor, Dr. Lazic, when their vacation is over to make sure he hasn’t paid the ultimate price for not wearing sunscreen.

The Sunscreaming Summer by Dr. Tamara Lazic Strugar is a fun story with a serious message. More than one in five people will get skin cancer and it's mostly preventable. This graphic novel has some fantastic illustrations and a great story, but it also teaches kids about the importance of wearing suncream and the right clothing when they are out in the sun. Skincare isn’t that interesting a subject to kids, but it should be. Not only do we get the story of the kids’ vacation, but we also get some helpful hints about skincare, especially in the sun, and lots of tips to help from an expert in the field. This is an engaging story, a must-read for all children and adults too.
