The Uninvited Guest by Jane Kopper Hilleary is a great learning tool for younger readers. Mrs. Bardot is having a party at her house in Barkanubia, and all her guests are dressed in their finery, enjoying the delicious food. Suddenly, an uninvited guest appears through an open door, a strange-looking animal who scares all the guests – except Henry, Mrs. Bardot’s son. He loves animals and is determined to discover exactly what it is. One of the guests wants to shoot the strange beast, and Henry knows he needs to get it to safety. He has an unlikely ally in his bid to save the creature – can they do it before the guns go off?
The Uninvited Guest by Jane Kopper Hilleary is a fun kids’ story with several important life lessons for young readers to learn. You might think that guns have no place in a child’s book, but it’s all part of the big picture and the learning curve. It’s a cute story about an uninvited guest, and it teaches children about empathy, understanding, and kindness. It also teaches them that there is always a choice. Prejudice and violence are the true uninvited guests in this story, and we all have the choice to turn our backs on them and choose respect and kindness. On a lighter note, kids will also learn about a wonderful animal and its habits and habitat. Hopefully, this book will not only enthrall youngsters but also teach them much about how they choose to navigate life. Highly recommended reading for kids of all ages.
