The Unlikely Redemption of the Thief Sydney Bridgewater is Mic Lowther’s second book in The Moorhouse Trilogy, as his heroine, Sydney Bridgewater, has banked a fortune from her previous illegal activities, and has now decided to become a model citizen. She takes a very clever path toward absolving herself legally from all her felonies and embarks on a new life. Her goals are to do something significant for herself, for a friend, and for someone who is not her friend. Since she is easily bored, she trains as a private investigator and opens her own agency. She is then approached by a former acquaintance with a proposition she cannot refuse. This takes her from the United States to Europe with the assistance of two of her protégées, an artist and a fashion designer. As Sydney is faced with problems in finding people on a particular list, many of them on the wrong side of the law, the question is why did the company who hired her want these people and what did they plan to do with them? Sydney Bridgewater intends to find out.
You may even guess by the quirky title that this book is something quite different. It is one of the most unique books I have read in a long time. I loved it, especially as the storyline is so clever. I would really like some of the computer programs that Sydney produced. So what if she defrauded every one of the companies she had worked for? Only by cents from each of her victims and, having amassed millions, what better way to pay for her earlier bad behavior than by helping others? You have to admire the way she thinks. How she wriggles out of breaking the law into becoming squeaky clean is pure genius, and the nefarious list of people she is tasked with finding had me laughing out loud. It is not always easy to depict law-breaking with humor with a heroine you root for, but Mic Lowther accomplishes this with ease. You cannot help but turn the pages to find out what will happen next. I particularly enjoyed the European travel angle as Sydney flies on her quest to track down missing people. I highly recommend The Unlikely Redemption of the Thief Sydney Bridgewater.
