The Whiskey Creek Water Company by Jan Walker is set in 1932. The name Whisky Creek Water Company attracts stranger Farley Price to the place. The local Indians gave the name 'Spirit Water' to the natural spring in the forest. The Scandinavian settlers gave the name 'Whiskey Creek' to the stream flowing from that spring. Farley Price arrives and disrupts life in the community. Maeva Swanson, the local school teacher, meets the stranger's daughter after hearing about Farley Price; much against the advice of her fiance, Axel Jenson, who is a boat captain. In the meantime, Orval Blevins, owner of the creek headwaters entrusts Farley Price with the task of delivering a product. Though Eleanor Price is abused by her husband, she stays because of her love for the place. The story takes a turn when bachelor brothers are attracted to the two unavailable women, Maeva and Eleanor. Will the bachelor brothers succeed in winning the love of these two women?

There are a few sub-plots that run parallel to the main story. The author has combined both, the plot and the sub-plots, and woven them together with expertise. The bachelors, the silent lovers of the two women, give the story another angle. There are many characters in the story and they have all been well developed. The author does not lose the tempo of the story in spite of so many characters. The narration is descriptive and the location adds to the rustic charm of the tale. The historical angle of the book makes it an interesting read.
