Elsewhere, the curious scholar Hatsun uncovers world-shattering secrets at the Great Library, hinting at a looming catastrophe. Spanning the entire Ring continent, this story mixes magic, myth, and war to deliver a detailed and very atmospheric story.

Mosha Winter’s The Winds of War excelled in every aspect; it left me satisfied, entertained, and filled with moving imagery in my imagination. It’s a thing of beauty, deftly plotted and suspenseful. The characters come to life in these pages, navigating landscapes fraught with chaos and turmoil. You are never sure of what to expect next, but there is always something exciting about to happen. The worldbuilding was spectacular, from the well-constructed landscapes to oppressed locales and from libraries to battlefields; you are treated to a visually cinematic world that sucks you in. The writing is exquisite, filled with descriptive passages that capture the scenes, emotions, and elements of the setting, as well as dialogues that reinforce the already pulsating drama. Perfect in every respect for fantasy fans.

Mosha Winter brings readers epic fantasy in The Winds of War. Kirana is the chieftainess of the Rhaavi and will do whatever it takes to save her people. The Rhaavi have been treated as outcasts since they arrived on the outer edge of the ring three hundred years ago in Astaron. Empress Seline of Astaris desperately tries to hold her empire together while Vesya and Adros are constantly nipping at their heels, vying for land. When a fanatical cult emerges in the empire, committing atrocious acts, all in the name of religion, it seems everything could soon be lost. In the meantime, Hatsun, accepted to study at the Great Library of the Awakened, discovers a book on his way to the famous Eight Towers and learns of a history that might have been buried on purpose.

Author Mosha Winter has set a strong foundation with extensive world-building in the first book of The Tapestry of the Tarnished. Writing in the third-person perspective from multiple characters provides readers with fascinating insights into the unfolding of the plot. The scenery is described in such a descriptive way that you will be fully immersed in this world. The pacing is fast, taking you from start to finish at a neck-breaking speed, even with the length of this book. Action scenes are choreographed with precision, while characters are more relatable with their personal flaws. The Winds of War is ideal for mature readers and fantasy fans who enjoy exploring a new world with complex magical systems and political intrigue.

The Winds of War by Mosha Winter is an action-packed, multilayered epic fantasy that delivers multiple plotlines and a world that is stunningly imagined and skillfully executed. Winter reminded me of the great epic fantasy works I have read, crafting a spellbinding tale that kept me turning the pages. The subplots were ingeniously designed to enhance the suspense. I wondered how the different stories connected, wanting to know what happened next to the characters. You’ll love the worldbuilding, from the natural elements to the social dynamics and strife, from the mythical beliefs to hints of prophecy.
