Doctor visits can be intimidating for children. But if they understand the procedures and know what to expect, the experience will be more enjoyable. For these cases, we have There's a Stegosaurus in My Tonsils by Nat Gibson. The story is about Liam, a boy who tried to roar like a dinosaur while playing with a friend. But he felt such severe pain that he couldn't continue playing. When he went to the doctor, she checked him and explained that his tonsils were so big that a small dinosaur could easily hide behind them. Fortunately, she had a solution: remove his tonsils to capture the invader. She calls in the Dinosaur Catchers to prepare for the operation, and that's how an exciting hunt begins.

I loved the dinosaur analogy. Nat Gibson used her experience as both of her children had tonsillectomies. So she shares her idea and gives us a tool for children to understand the procedure and the medical check-up before surgery. This will allow doctors to clarify their doubts and give them confidence. The narration is entertaining, with short sentences and simple vocabulary. The explanations are suitable for younger children, and the story is fun throughout, thanks to Liam's great imagination and good attitude. The illustrations are charming, making the whole procedure look like an easy experience. The characters are friendly, and the dinosaur images are adorable. There's a Stegosaurus in My Tonsils is a cute and educational read that will give children a new perspective on doctor visits.
