There's Blood on the Moon Tonight is a retro-horror in the classic style of human-driven supernatural macabre wherein author Bryn Roar centers the story on a remote locale and a group of misfits known as the Creeps. Nothing good ever comes from a covert government research lab except an excellent plot, which Roar develops through the points of view of several characters. Each has their own voice and aside from adoring the weirdest, darkest elements ever, their normal lives on the island Moon are...well, normal. At first. The area known as The Pines that divides the research facility from the residential area starts to show signs of things that go bump in broad daylight, girls are suddenly vomiting black goop, and robots meander down the middle of Main Street. You know. Just your average, everyday coming-of-age story.

If the contents of There's Blood on the Moon Tonight are what liberally pours out of Bryn Roar's wild imagination, they are exactly the type of writer I will continue to read. The book is intelligent and witty, with all of the hallmarks of similar horror writers that they and their characters name but I will not [but their initials are Stephen King], and none of the copy-cat elements that I too frequently come across. There are bad guys and worse guys, Rabids and pop culture references that tickle the brain, and the inclusion of some modern comedy jabs such as, “But not today, Creeps. Not today...” The book is long but does not feel like it, and readers will be happy to know that it does not end with yucky, outdated scenes that someone who REALLY reads the book will understand. Bonus points are awarded for the potential to see Roar's spin-offs and I can vouch as someone who is new to the work and who knew exactly zero about the author prior, that they have just earned a new fan. Very highly recommended.
