If I had to describe This Quiet Sky by Joanne Bischof in one word it would be soul stirring. There is no way to read this story and not be emotionally affected by the lives of these characters. Sarah Miller and her family move to Rocky Knob and the first day of school has her sitting with Tucker O'Shay, a boy she has already heard rumors about. The rumors are that he is sick and could be contagious. She doesn't intend to like him, but when he volunteers to help her with algebra, a friendship forms. Turns out that Tucker does have a terminal illness, but he doesn't let that dictate his life; instead he teaches Sarah a few things about living, impacting her life in a way that will change her forever.

Even though This Quiet Sky is a short read, the author packs plenty of emotion and feeling into the story. The characters are very well developed, allowing Ms. Bischof to effortlessly pull me into the lives of Sarah and Tucker. We see the story unfold through the eyes of Sarah, which really made me feel like I had stepped into her shoes, experiencing the feelings that she felt, allowing the emotions to pour from the pages. I really can't say anything about Tucker other than he was an amazing character. I still tear up every time I think of him. There are so many valuable life lessons woven into This Quiet Time, from embracing every day to the gentle reminder that God always watches over us.

The epilogue leaves me hopeful for Sarah, and all I can say is that I want another story from Rocky Knob because I need to know how Sarah's life turns out, and what about Tucker's brother Benjamin - how does he handle the losses life has dealt him? Overall, This Quiet Sky is an emotionally fulfilling read that grabbed my heart and left me thinking about the characters long after I finished the final page. Easily one of the best books I have read this year.
