Thunder’s Grand Adventure by Julie Elkins is an adventure book for children. Thunder, aka Wubbs, is an adorable dog living a great life with his loving family. One day, Thunder suspects something isn’t quite right. There are boxes all over the place and his humans have water coming out of their eyes. The next morning, Thunder wakes up and sees a giant truck outside the house. He is even more confused and unsettled, but he scoffs down some of his yummy food. A short while later Thunder is taken outside, giving him reason to believe that his humans are finally taking him for a walk. But Thunder couldn’t have been more wrong; he was going on an adventure instead. He says his goodbyes and hops into the truck to meet some new friends. Where is Thunder going and why are other dogs there too? Find out in this wonderful book.
Thunder’s Grand Adventure had me experience a rollercoaster of emotions, like the main character Thunder. As a reader, I sometimes like to skip the synopsis so I'm surprised by the storyline, and I'm so glad I avoided this one as it made the reading experience that much more enjoyable. When I first started reading, I had a bad feeling it was going to be a sad story about Thunder having to go to new owners but was relieved to find out that wasn’t the case. This kept me on my toes throughout the book and kept me hooked on the storyline, leaving me wanting to know more. I giggled when Thunder did his "Wubbas." It was hilarious each time. Julie Elkins is an incredible storyteller and I can't wait to read more of her work.
