Author Biography

Thank you so much for checking out my bio. I recently lost a business in California and relocated to Connecticut with my husky

Thunder (but we call him "Wubbs"). Thunder's Grand Adventure is the first in a series that I will be writing over the next few years. As a mom of 2, I always loved reading books to my kids. My hope is to encourage young readers to learn and grow with Thunder through his many hilarious mishaps while learning how to navigate the world around him.

One of my kids always had a difficult time adapting to new situations and I realized how powerful identifying with a character through books could be to cope with life's various transitions.

I'm an avid explorer of nature, and love going on long walks with Thunder!

Thunder’s Grand Adventure by Julie Elkins is an adventure book for children. Thunder, aka Wubbs, is an adorable dog living a great life with his loving family. One day, Thunder suspects something isn’t quite right. There are boxes all over the place and his humans have water coming out of their eyes. The next morning, Thunder wakes up and sees a giant truck outside the house. He is even more confused and unsettled, but he scoffs down some of his yummy food. A short while later Thunder is taken outside, giving him reason to believe that his humans are finally taking him for a walk. But Thunder couldn’t have been more wrong; he was going on an adventure instead. He says his goodbyes and hops into the truck to meet some new friends. Where is Thunder going and why are other dogs there too? Find out in this wonderful book.

Thunder’s Grand Adventure had me experience a rollercoaster of emotions, like the main character Thunder. As a reader, I sometimes like to skip the synopsis so I'm surprised by the storyline, and I'm so glad I avoided this one as it made the reading experience that much more enjoyable. When I first started reading, I had a bad feeling it was going to be a sad story about Thunder having to go to new owners but was relieved to find out that wasn’t the case. This kept me on my toes throughout the book and kept me hooked on the storyline, leaving me wanting to know more. I giggled when Thunder did his "Wubbas." It was hilarious each time. Julie Elkins is an incredible storyteller and I can't wait to read more of her work.

Thunder (or Wubbs) is a Siberian husky who is full of joy and loves his human family indefinitely. Wubbs smells a change in the air, feeling that his Mom and Cassie are worried and even sad. Sam, one of Wubbs' human family members, leaves home for school, taking another dog with him. It turns out that Thunder would hit the road as well. A kind and attentive transporter named Joe introduces Wubbs to his new friends, a labradoodle named Kobe, and the lovely Nellie, an English cocker spaniel. A big trip to the East Coast awaits Wubbs, with all kinds of adventures following. Thunder's Grand Adventure by Julie Elkins, the first installment in a series, is a fascinating read for children from 6 years of age and beyond, as well as adult dog lovers.

Narrated from the dog's point of view, Thunder's Grand Adventure allows us a closer look at the fears of our best friend, a dog, during a time of major change. Julie Elkins has created a vibrant, lively character, leaving us in no doubt about how much she loves Thunder. I liked the way that the story speaks about finding a pack - those who will always support us in difficult situations and whom we can trust fully. Kobe is that kind of friend for Wubbs: wise, calm, and understanding of his insecurities. Nellie, a beautiful show dog, leads Wubbs and young readers into the new and exciting world of dog competitions. The book is a promising premise for a series about a dog who can spell "I love you" in a way discernible to human ears.

Thunder's Grand Adventure by Julie Elkins is an exciting story that follows a Siberian husky’s adventures as he travels from the West Coast to Connecticut. As he watches his toys being put into boxes, Thunder wonders whether this is a new game that his family has created. Sam and Cassie seem to be busy putting their things in boxes too. Later, a man comes to pick up Thunder and walks him to his van. Though sad to leave his family behind, Thunder is excited to meet his new friend, Kobe. He cannot wait for the adventures that await them. Along the way, they pick up Nellie, who becomes Thunder’s other friend. Together they have new, exhilarating experiences before Thunder finally reunites with his family.

Young readers will enjoy the exciting events on the journey and love Thunder’s hilarious reactions. The story is written from his perspective, which is entertaining and engaging. Children will also learn important lessons, including overcoming fear, making friends, and embracing change. Thunder’s other friends are also compelling as they have their own personalities. Joe, who guides the dogs throughout the journey, is a lovely main character as he is kind and reassures them during their grand adventure. I enjoyed learning about the bond Thunder shares with his family and loved the story’s happy, hopeful ending. Thunder's Grand Adventure by Julie Elkins is a beautiful story with fascinating characters and important lessons. Highly recommended for all readers.
