When an invitation to the Time Travel Academy arrives, he finds himself among other children who can bend time in their own ways. As he settles into his new life, Kurt learns what happened to his parents on Pardiso, and he and his friends begin a search for four crystals of time, the only things that can stop the Faze, a silent force moving through space and freezing everything it touches. Can they find the crystals in time?
Time Travel Academy: Kurt Rogers and the Four Crystals of Time by Reginald Williams is an exciting adventure that doesn't feel rushed, giving you plenty of time to settle into the Academy and everything Kurt is feeling as he adjusts to this new world. Kurt is easy to root for; he's spent a year scared of his own ability, and you can feel that uncertainty easing a bit more with each chapter as he starts figuring out who he actually is. The other kids at the Academy each bring their own personality to the story, and the friendships and rivalries between them give the book a lot of its energy. It's a steady read rather than a frantic one, but there's a tension running quietly underneath it all that kept me turning the pages. Reginald has built a solid world here, and he trusts his characters to carry it. There's enough going on with the mystery of the crystals and the emotional side of Kurt's story to keep you invested until the end. A good pick for readers who want their sci-fi adventure with a bit of heart to it.
