Claudia, the main character of Twin Magnolia – A Soul Call by Victoria Popescu, is a sensitive young woman looking for love. But before embarking on this journey, she needs to heal her soul from the grief she experienced throughout her life - first by losing her parents at a young age, then her grandfather and ultimately, her last close relative, grandmother, who was all in one: parents, grandparents, friend and role model. When she decides to visit her grandmother’s friend, Tarana, in Hawaii, she goes through a long and painful healing process to find her inner peace, her creativity (she is a painter), and ultimately, her soul mate. As for Tarana, she is a wise character who seems not only to have all the answers on a profound level, but she also helps Claudia to find her path.
Twin Magnolia – A Soul Call by Victoria Popescu is a poetic and profound book, enjoyable to read, and mysterious at times, which makes it even more interesting. Written in the first person, from Claudia’s perspective, the book is introspective, going deep into Claudia’s thoughts and feelings. The interior conflict is constructed around a main question: will Claudia heal herself from her past pain in order to open her soul to recognize and welcome true love? The dialogues between Claudia and Tarana are deep and reveal a sense of spirituality that we can all apply to our own lives. Overall, my impression was that I was reading a self-help, motivational, inspirational, and spiritual book in the form of fiction where the author speaks to readers through the characters.
