Lisa Cram begins Two-Fer by pulling us straight onto Flores Island with an unusual operative named Sand Reap. Operating as an agent for a cosmic administration known as the Galactic Order of Demons and Saints, Sand usually spends his days collecting specific souls. Things spiral out of control when his standard handler vanishes without warning, replaced by a bizarrely dressed new guide named Jenny who suddenly flags a bartender named Kat for immediate elimination. Sand pauses the execution to investigate a potential setup, while simultaneously juggling a dangerous biological extraction urge that makes physical proximity to humans a major hazard. The situation intensifies when Kat’s weaponized twin sister, Tatiana, rolls onto the island with an armed enforcement squad intent on wiping Kat out. Faced with imminent danger at Sand’s airport hangar, the characters must navigate a chaotic clash against lethal intruders while trying to avoid the suspicion of law enforcement. In the end, can a supernatural bounty hunter and a targeted survivor outsmart both an assassin network and a cosmic conspiracy?
Two-Fer by Lisa Cram is a highly entertaining blend of urban fantasy that holds your attention from the first chapter. The pacing moves rapidly, even during the necessary technical setup or the introduction of the cosmic rules. Sand is a fascinating lead character because his limitations and intense biological cravings keep him vulnerable despite his otherworldly authority. Kat matches his energy perfectly, proving herself as a very capable survivalist rather than a passive target. The author builds an intriguing supernatural system where the administrative side of the afterlife clashes with the complex realities of operating on Earth. Cram’s writing is accessible and engaging, focusing on immediate character actions and sharp dialogue exchanges. Every development is cohesive, and the escalating conflict between the galactic bureaucracy and the mortal world keeps the adrenaline humming along smoothly. If you’re looking for a fast-paced, refreshing fantasy read with great chemistry and amazing survival tactics, this book is a nice choice.
