Author Biography

Susan P. Baker is the author of six novels and two nonfiction books, which all have a legal aspect due to her career in the justice system. A retired Texas judge from Galveston, for 12 years Susan presided over family violence, child abuse, juvenile delinquency (including murder), child custody battles, and other family cases. She also practiced law for nine years spending much of her time in the courtroom. While in law school, she worked as a probation officer, making home visits to some scary neighborhoods.

Susan’s father was a lawyer and a judge. She remembers him parking the family outside the old county jail while he went in and made bail bonds. She'd stare out the window at the broken glass lining the top of the wall to prevent escapes and wonder what the jail was like inside. Later, she became quite familiar with the inside of the jail, but luckily she could leave whenever she wanted.

Susan is a member of Women Fiction Writers Association, Authors Guild, Sisters in Crime, Writers League of Texas, and Galveston Novel and Short Story Writers.

She has two children, eight grandchildren, and lives in Galveston, Texas. She loves dark chocolate An anglophile, her favorite country is England where she likes to visit cousins--her mother was a British war bride--Roman ruins, anything Shakespeare, and just about everything else she comes across.

Dena Armstrong, an attorney in Galveston, Texas, shares her practice with her cousin, Lucas Barlow. While Lucas tries to control every aspect of the practice, Dena challenges his mandates, such as practicing family law, which is against their original agreement. Dena accepts the case of Ginny Sellers, who needs to extricate herself from an abusive, common law marriage to Alan Sellers. Ginny finds protection from her older brother, the handsome, and divorced Lieutenant Martin Richardson. Dena is in an unfulfilling marriage herself; her husband Zack travels for work frequently, seems obsessed with money, and has been distant from her for some time. She focuses on being a loving mother to her two young children. Dena is considering making some major life changes, though, carefully laying the groundwork. In Unaware: A Suspense Novel, author Susan P. Baker crafts an enthralling, breathtaking story.
