Under Her Wings: Sistas Book 1 begins with author Anne Marie Citro introducing Gabriella whose life has been a nightmare for the last three years. She has been desperately seeking some way to connect with her deceased husband and sons. Her last hope is a magical place in Scotland, where it is said you can talk to the dead. Her inability to cope with her despair brought Liam and Edward into her life. They diligently nursed her back to strength, emotionally and physically, until she could function as a human again. Little did they know the wee lass they thought they were saving would become their salvation. She gave Liam the gift of forgiving his actions against Raven, and she gave Edward a friend and the love of his life.
Anne Marie Citro begins Under Her Wings with three broken people and uses their rock bottom situations to build upon. Words of encouragement and love throughout the book convey a hope in humanity that makes you feel enriched just witnessing unconditional friendship. Though Gabriella was the initial person needing healing and saving, I felt her activity using healing stones was brilliant. Anne Marie Citro did an excellent job portraying the healing processes needed to overcome failures experienced in a relationship. Death is final and forgiveness can no longer be sought, but the author illustrated the wisdom behind forgiving oneself, and including loved ones who have passed on to continue their work in your life. It is an emotional ride as Gabriella’s story unfolds; the beauty of her life was rewarding. I enjoyed how the story slowly unfolded to reveal the different layers of Gabriella, Liam, and Edward. This is a excellent novel, and is just the beginning of the Sistas series, as this special group of friends finds love in the most unlikely places.
