Under the Sea Puzzles: Minkie Monster and the Lost Treasure by Ceri Clark is a delightfully entertaining and educational rhyming book for young children. After a useful note for parents on how to use the book, the story begins with Minkie Monster going in search of treasure. His hunt takes him on a journey, meeting many sea creatures, including the scary shark. Then, when his friend, Bob, comes to his aid, Minkie discovers that some things are worth far more than gold and silver. Every page of this brightly illustrated story has puzzles and learning activities to complete as the adventure unfolds. These include word search, counting games, spot the difference, coloring, join the dots, and letter tracing - a real treasure trove of activities.
Under the Sea Puzzles: Minkie Monster and the Lost Treasure is a wonderfully interactive story with lots of fun learning games that will really engage the young child. The rhyming text makes the plot bounce along. I love the way Ceri Clark combines the story with the puzzles, making this a book that draws the child right into Minkie's adventure in a learning-through-fun and entertaining way. You can photocopy the pages so that they can be filled in again and again.
I think children will love the excitement of the treasure hunt and meeting all the sea characters along the way. This is a beautifully thought out and crafted story and the bright, attractive illustrations on every page really complement it perfectly. There is so much to share and talk about on each page. My favorite is probably page 17 where Minkie hugs his friend, Bob, and a special message about friendship and what matters most is revealed. Ceri Clark's book is the perfect addition to any child's home or class library. Sincerely recommended.
