Joan was a resident at the Philadelphia Institute for Women, a mental institution for the criminally insane. Each day she retreats to her own world, where she reads biographies and imagines she is someone else, someplace else. Doctor Steven Ochroch encouraged her to record all of her mental adventures in a journal. Joan was accused of the heinous crime of killing John.

If a person was not insane when they entered the institution within a month they would be. Brit suffered from Munchausen syndrome; she craved attention and would harm herself to get it. Chrissy was obsessed with time; on every hour she loudly and clearly announced the time. “Eight o’clock and all is well, and everything else can go to hell!” Jory served the Dark Lord. Each woman lived in their own personal hell. Of all of the residents Joan comes across as the sanest. Dr. Ochroch had little trouble with Joan until the new girl arrived. Elaine was different.

Lisa Wooten, author of "Unforgivable" offers her readers a brilliant read. I just finished it and it left me feeling unsettled. Wooten has created characters that are abnormal and yet feel real. She has given us a glimpse inside the walls of a mental institution and more importantly the mind of the criminally insane. The plot is unforgettable! More than once I was taken by surprise at the turn of events. I never saw the ending coming. I was unfamiliar with Lisa Wooten when I picked up her book. But now I will be watching for more books by her.
