Unmasking the Diamond by Laura Beers takes readers on a daring mystery as the main characters uncover a deadly secret. Women are disappearing, and Lord Luca is determined to find answers. As the owner of the local newssheets, his journalist instincts are tingling. But first he must solve another mystery: who is the elusive Mr. Fairchild who writes such sensational articles for the rival newspaper? In this seventh book in the Courting the Unconventional series, readers are treated to an engaging rivals-to-lovers romance with a suspenseful mystery and an abundance of wit and banter. Miss Winslow insists on having things her way. The only problem? When the persistent Lord Luca finds himself tangled in an unexpected alliance with her, despite her obvious dislike, things quickly take a dangerous turn.
I loved the characters in Unmasking the Diamond by Laura Beers. I took great delight in the teasing banter between Lord Luca and Miss Winslow, even more so when she realized she couldn’t help but play along. Even though she spends much of the story insisting on denying her feelings, I really enjoyed getting to see them slowly learn to work together and trust each other. The story keeps a good balance of lighter teasing between a few heavier and more heartfelt scenes. There were also some nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout that I enjoyed uncovering. I loved the heart-to-heart scenes but admit the banter was equally delightful! The main characters were both enjoyable, and I found it amusing to see their friends and family lightly teasing them about their growing attachment to one another. The mystery in the story kept things moving at a good pace, and I found it to be a quick and enjoyable read.
