Violent Delights by Hannah Boggs is the story of a young girl called Odette, who travels across the country to get medical help, only to realize that she has trapped herself in a situation from which she might not be able to escape. Odette knew that if she wanted to survive, she had to get the treatment that would increase her chances of survival. She thought that she would be lonely, but she quickly befriends a set of fraternal twins and she feels as if things will improve soon. They are magicians, lively, funny and very friendly, and it seems like the guy harbors some romantic feelings towards her. However, soon Odette realizes that they not normal; there is something eerie about them that keeps giving her an odd feeling. Odette realizes that she is trapped and cannot run or hide from the twins. People around her are dropping dead and it all seems to lead back to the magicians. What can Odette do? She was never meant to be stuck in a place where she might never be able to get her innocence back.
What can I say about Violent Delights? It is one of those rare few novels where everything just clicks. From the narrative to the development, the author ensured that everything about this novel was perfect. I could not help but feel sympathetic towards Odette. She is an innocent character, one that was sheltered, but when her illusion was shattered, she realized that she was the only one who could save herself. I enjoyed how she grew and developed into a powerful young woman who stood up for herself and what she thought was right. The mystery and the element of suspense were kept alive until the very end and I lived for it! This is a phenomenal first novel and I cannot wait to see what Hannah Boggs has in store for Odette.
