In M.A. Arana’s Violet Mystique: Part I, after Macen’s father dies, he inherits the family shop. Events take a turn when an attempted armed robbery occurs while Jalyn is working there. Detective Ed Daza investigates the incident and senses that Jalyn is hiding far more than she admits. Ed wanted the truth and began digging into Jalyn’s past. Ed discovers Jalyn’s connection to a sinister figure known as Madam. Madam once trained runaways and orphans to be soldiers that she could control for her own purposes. Madam controlled them to kill anyone standing in her way. Jalyn’s arrival changed Madam in unexpected ways as she transforms from provider to ruthless killer. Madam needed more people with extraordinary gifts to reach the mysterious Others. But Jalyn just wanted a normal life.

Violet Mystique: Part I by M.A. Arana is fast-paced and jam-packed with action. It is an intriguing read. The action started on the first page and never stopped. I was hooked from the start until the end. I had a hard time putting the book down and was turning the pages as fast as I could. I could not wait to see what would happen next, and it was always a surprise. The characters were relatable despite their special gifts. The book was beautifully written and held my attention throughout. It was easy to visualize the events with the vivid descriptions. I enjoyed reading the book and loved the ending. I will ponder over this book for a while.
