Watching by Jeffrey Jay Levin is the story of Josh, a man who has a rare and dangerous psychic power known as 'watching.' His supernatural ability allows him to engage in non-corporeal time travel to a past timeline. Deeply moved by the snapshot of a painting once stolen by the Nazis, Josh ventures on a high-stakes assignment to recover it. Fortunately, he is not alone on this mission. His wife (Adrian), French Interpol Investigator Joëlle Dubois, and FBI Special Agent Starling Herbert are by his side. Josh's quest plunges him into the shadows of WWII and into countries like Germany and South America, where the stolen artwork is shrouded in secrecy. Together, Josh, Adrian, Star, and Dubois must race against time (and other destructive forces) to recover the painting and reveal long-concealed truths in the unwavering pursuit of historical justice.

Watching by Jeffrey Jay Levin is an exquisite blend of time-travel mystery, suspense, emotional depth, and historical drama. Levin immerses readers in the unsettling, atmospheric world of Nazi-occupied Vienna, conveying the gravity of WW II history with powerful sensorial details. The story shifts between enthralling historical flashbacks and present-day investigations, creating an exciting, high-stakes thriller. Josh stands out more than the traditional time-traveling protagonist. His inner battles—the harmful physical consequences of his powers and the emotional dynamics of his marriage—give the narrative a profoundly human core. An especially intriguing subplot is Star's navigation of the bureaucratic issues in the FBI, adding dramatic texture and authenticity to the broader storyline. Overall, this novel is ideal for anyone who enjoys intricately woven historical and speculative fiction anchored by strong character interactions.
