Super wealthy tycoon Blake Putnam has a family wedding he is sincerely dreading, but he doesn’t want to deal with a date who has dreams of a future in her eyes. So he chooses someone he can control, his employee Sam Jones who thinks she’s getting her big break with the company by being his right hand during an important meeting. When she is whisked off for high end shopping and a makeover, she thinks something is off but goes with the flow. In Weekend with the Tycoon, Blake and Samantha have to deal with a meddling mother, strained family dynamics as well as inconveniently growing feelings. Kaira Rouda has written a fun, modern day Cinderella story, but with depth.
What is so great about Weekend with the Tycoon is that neither Blake nor Sam are looking for love and simply happen upon it due to shared interests. Although she is wowed by the shopping trip and the tremendous wealth of Blake’s family, it doesn’t have any bearing on her growing attraction to her boss. But Sam wants to feel needed at work and in her efforts to make her pitch to Blake, they find plenty of common ground. This story is fairly short, but author Kaira Rouda manages to tell us a great deal about the characters and why they are so reluctant to seek out love. It becomes clear that Blake’s iceman persona is just a defense mechanism, one that Sam obliterates without even trying. At times the emotions are heavy in Weekend with the Tycoon, but overall this is a fun story with an island backdrop to enhance the romance.
