In Jennifer Hardman's What Remains of Grace, Jenna returns home after ten years. Jenna ran away from Tarpon Springs after losing her brother and built a successful company and a new life in Alpharetta. For the next ten years, Grace handled every responsibility alone, keeping the bakery, the family home, and her teenage daughter, Emmie, together. After Grace's death, Jenna is forced to return and confront the life she abandoned. By honoring Grace's sacrifices, Jenna takes over caring for Emmie. Jenna and Emmie struggle to reconnect, and Jenna wants to revive the beloved Blue Cypress Bakery. She enlists the help of skilled contractor Cole Bennett. Feelings develop between Cole and Jenna as their friendship grows. Could Cole help restore Jenna's wounded heart?

Jennifer Hardman's debut novel is emotionally rich and thought-provoking. The characters were realistic and could be anybody I know. Jenna grows throughout the story. She learns to face her grief instead of running away from it. Emmie had her own journey navigating through her grief and accepting Jenna’s care. The descriptive writing captured my attention. The charm of Tarpon Springs and the soothing atmosphere of the bakery made Tarpon Springs feel like a character in its own right. The pacing was steady with uplifting scenes of hope. It was easy to lose myself in Jenna's world and be part of her struggles. This book was beautifully written and has all the components to be a winner. I enjoyed reading What Remains of Grace. It is a touching read that lingers long after the final page.
