When Wendy Flies is a charming and heartwarming children's book by Kevin Speth that captures the essence of perseverance and determination. This delightful story follows the journey of Wendy, a cute little pig owned by Farmer Swift, who dreams of flying high in the sky. Despite her skeptical cat friend Earl's disbelief and his conviction that everything will go wrong, Wendy is determined to learn how to fly and refuses to give up until she achieves her goal. Throughout the story, Wendy is supported by her fly friend Zippy, rooster friend Harvey, and bull friend Rusty, who offer her valuable advice and encouragement. Despite being a pig and knowing she cannot fly, Wendy keeps trying and persevering, hoping that someday she will succeed. But will she be able to fly, or will Earl be proven right?
This story beautifully portrays the importance of perseverance and not giving up on one's dreams. It teaches young readers that with determination and hard work, they can achieve their goals and that asking for help is essential. The illustrations by Kevin Speth are clever and adorable and perfectly capture the characters' emotions, making the story even more engaging and enjoyable. When Wendy Flies is not just a heartwarming story, but also an excellent educational resource for teachers. It can be used to teach a lesson on perseverance, determination, and the importance of never giving up. It is ideal for children aged four to eight and can also help older children learn about idioms and how these apply to reading. This book is a must-have in any home or school library, and I highly recommend it to parents, teachers, and children alike. When reading this book, your child will not only be entertained but will also learn valuable life lessons.
