“When You Need a Good Laugh: Finding Contagious Joy,” written by Phil Callaway and with photographs by Kevin Rivoli, is a book that will have you smiling on every single page and laughing out loud. This book begins with a story about a woman mistaking another man as her husband and jumping on his back; but the couple is able to laugh about it later. Then there is a section that focuses on relationships and the joy that is found in them. There are some people and some things that just suck the joy out of you and the next section is devoted to squashing that. During tough times, laughter and humor may be just what is needed and this is the focus on the next section and then the following sections are taking time to slow down and appreciate life and being someone who lives behind a legacy that others will want to and should follow. There are photos, quotes, and fun things interspersed throughout the book as well.
I believe in laughter and the health benefits of that in our lives, physically, mentally and emotionally. This gift book is the perfect thing to help each of us find laughter in our everyday moments and enjoy life more in general! I love black and white photographs and all of the photographs in this book are black and white, so that just added so much to this book for me, not to mention that the pictures are so precious as well. Not only did the photographs put a smile on my face, but some brought back memories for me while as for others, I can hope to have moments like them in my life; for example, the picture of the older couple sitting in front of their fireplace decorated for Christmas with stockings with their children’s names and years of birth on them. The stories as well as the little tidbits included such as lines from movies and quotes seen on magnets are well-written and memorable. This is an excellent book and one to read and look at over and over many times.
