When You Were a Worm (and Other Stories and Creepy Crawlies!) by Neil McFarlane is a collection of imaginary stories that will make your child wonder what would happen if they turned into a creepy, crawly creature. Kids can go through myriad emotions at the thought of being changed into a worm, a tadpole, a flea, a rat, a spider, a caterpillar, a snake and a fly. The stories suck kids into them and transform their little world into a fascinating one. All the stories are charming, innovative and original. The experience of going through being each of these creepy, crawly creatures is unique and kids will love it.
The stories are delightful and cheerful in their own way. I loved the concept and the black and white illustrations make it even more adorable. Grandparents and parents will find it to be a perfect bedtime story book for their grand kids and kids. The book also makes a good choice for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. The stories make kids think in an imaginative way and open them to new and ingenious ideas. Whether it is being a caterpillar or a spider or any crawly insect, the author injects fun and humor into the stories. All the stories are the perfect length, enough to make it a good bedtime read or for read aloud sessions. Children will remain glued to the stories as they become one of those creepy crawlies.
