Where Blue Roses Bloom is the first novel in A Soul in Petals series by Yasmine Maher. This New Adult novel intertwines mystery, fantasy, suspense, and a touch of romance. The story follows Mia, a woman trapped in her own body as a coma ghost, with fragmented memories hinting that someone wants her dead. Her only lifeline is Haru, a disillusioned lawyer who reluctantly becomes entangled in her plight. As Mia slowly pieces together her identity, she discovers that her existence is tied to a kingdom-shaking secret. Haru and Mia must unravel the truth before time runs out, or she will fade away, taking the kingdom’s future with her. Together, they must race against time before Mia fades away completely and nothing can be done to save them all.
Author Yasmine Maher treats her readers to a magical story that is both entertaining and exciting from the start until the end. She crafts a compelling tale with high stakes and a unique premise. Mia’s ghostly existence creates a unique narrative perspective, while Haru’s reluctant heroism adds emotional depth. The novel’s pacing keeps readers engaged, balancing tense moments of revelation with quieter, introspective scenes. The author excels at building suspense, revealing just enough of Mia’s fragmented memories to keep readers guessing. The evolving dynamic between Mia and Haru is perfectly executed, with plenty of tension and subtle hints of romance. I loved how Haru was a little reluctant to get involved with Mia, but things changed quickly and rapidly for him. The pace is perfect, the characters are believable, and the worldbuilding is fantastic. Where Blue Roses Bloom is a wonderful debut novel, and I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series!
