La’tiera was groomed for one purpose in life. She was isolated, pampered, and protected. Her world depended on her ultimate sacrifice, death. The time was near. A small child makes way for a change in La’tier’s life. The young woman craves companionship and gladly accepts the friendship of Dal, even though he was an outside. Dal knows the truth; La’tiera’s death will bring evil and destruction, not the salvation she expects. He and his troupe kidnap her in hopes of revealing the truth. Her life is the key to salvation.

Too often, we are loyal to an ideal without knowing why. Gloria Oliver is a talented author. She allows La’tiera to slowly grow and mature. The characters are real to life. This fantasy is appropriate for YA. It will also appeal to adults. The plot moves along smoothly as the reader travels along with La’tiera and Dal. The characters are fascinating. All in all this is a delightful read that is easy to recommend.

Willing Sacrifice is about a girl raised in isolation for the sole purpose of sacrificing her life to save her people.

Really, it's the little things, the attention to detail, that make this such a wonderful book. All the little things we take for granted, La'tiera has been denied, and so when she discovers them she is completely fascinated by the every day.

The progression from what she's been taught to what is true is a believable one; La'tiera is intelligent, yet she's also loyal and not easily swayed from what she believes is the right thing to do. The way she thinks and progresses, the events that shape her decisions, are all completely believable within the context of the story, which is very important for a story of this nature.

And La'tiera's reactions at the end are also spot-on for a real person in her situation.

Gloria Oliver has done it again, and with as much talent and style as ever.
